NSO data showed that out of the 6,387 marriages registered abroad in 2004,
around 72.9 percent or 4,653 were interracial marriages between Filipinos
and foreigners while only 27.1 percent or 1,734 were marriages were between
Among foreign nationalities, more interrracial marriages happened between
Filipinos and Japanese nationals. The NSO said that four out of 10
interracial marriages involved Filipino brides and Japanese grooms while
67.8 percent of the 115 total registered interracial marriages were between
Filipino grooms and Japanese brides in 2004.
Other foreign nationals who got married to Filipino brides in 2004 were
Americans, 854; Germans, 242; British, 210; Australians, 103; Swiss, 100;
and other nationalities, 596.
Meanwhile, the median age of interracial couples is 37 years for grooms and
31 years for brides while the median age for brides and grooms married in
the Philippines were 24.7 and 27.4 years, respectively.
Of those married, eight out of 10 brides and seven out of 10 grooms were
married for the first-time. The NSO said that single grooms married in their
early 30s while their female counterparts married in their late 20s.
