Dina (not her real name), 36, a senior magazine journalist, said she joined online dating service www.birojodoh.or.id, where she met Teddy Rendrawan, last month.
She then struck up a friendship with Teddy, who said he was a senior officer at the Foreign Ministry in Jakarta.
"Somehow I just believed (him) and agreed to meet Teddy in Surabaya," she told reporters.
On Dec. 22, Dina met Teddy and they then went to Malang, East Java, the next day to meet Dina's friends, who were impressed by Teddy's kindness and politeness, she said.
She said Teddy told her he needed money to help his boss, who was blackmailed over a love affair.
"He said, if I didn't help him, he would be blamed for his department's bad image," she said.
She gave him money, jewelry and her digital camera and even asked some of her colleagues to lend her money to help him -- in total Rp 30 million in cash and belongings.
"I don't know why I trusted him that much. I kept asking myself, 'Is he for real?', but I couldn't refuse," she said.
She said she suspected that Teddy had hypnotized her and that she had tried to call him several times but that his number was now inactive.
"And I just realized that I don't even know his address," she added. (dia)
