Why is it then that women (even men) all over the world are spending millions on cosmetics and other beauty products? And why, when off-the-counter items don't work, do the more desperate ones risk going under the knife?
The latest survey on the most attractive women and men in the world include the likes of Nicole Kidman, Kiera Knightley, Julia Roberts, Aishwarya Rai, George Clooney, Brad Pitt and David Beckham. Need we say more?
However we deny it, studies have shown our perception of beauty has always been largely physical. Pond's, one of the leading beauty products in the market, knows this only too well. For years, the company has been constantly developing products to help women achieve that perfect beauty, which to a lot of Filipinas means having flawless white skin. In fact, for many Asian women, having flawless skin opens them up to a lot of possibilities including a dream romance.
Recently, Pond's unveiled its latest innovative product, the Pond's Flawless White Visibly Lightening Day Cream which aims to help women achieve that flawless white beauty.
"The Pond's Flawless White Visibly Lightening Cream is especially formulated for Asian skin," says Renel Cecilio, Pond's brand manager. "It contains the breakthrough VAO-B3 complex designed for maximum skin lightening performance in just seven days."
A night of romance
As such, Pond's launched the product through a night of flowers, romance, and a trip to Paris, dubbed "Fete d'Amour," at the Rigodon Ballroom of the Peninsula Manila.
Pond's transformed the huge ballroom into the grandest and most luxurious venue for matchmaking and partying.
The affair gathered today's most eligible and beautiful in a rare chance of finding their one true love. Amid the white draperies, lovely blooms of roses and tulips, indulgent chocolates, delicious canapes and sparkling wines bedecking the grand ballroom, these single hearts searched for Mr. and Ms. Right.
Pond's took inspiration from the online community, Facebook, in setting up the various booths, where the searchees (and couples) get to know more about their better halves.
Bachelors and bachelorettes sent secret messages at the "Message Sent" booth. Couples sealed their love by posing for a caricature memento at the "Face-2-Face" corner. Others relied on the stars as they seek guidance from a fashionable fortune-teller at the "Love Seek" area. Some opted to capture their moment of sweetness at the "Picture Perfect" center.
Couples were given a chance to confess their love through requested songs (courtesy of the Akafellas), chocolates and candies, a cocktail drink, and flowers, as well.
At the end of the night, Mia Ayesa won the Prettiest in Pink award, while Tina Perez and Aaron Litonjua won the Pond's Flawless Match award. Margot Tan was the grandest winner of them all as she won the trip to Paris.
"At Pond's, we know that beauty is, in fact, the starting point of romance," says Mutya Laxa, marketing manager for skin of Unilever, "If you look at the inner workings of a man's mind, attraction starts with the physical, then it moves to intellectual then emotional attraction. We understand the pivotal role that beauty plays in finding true romance. And we made it our mission at Pond's to give the beauty that brings romance to a woman's life."
Indeed, looks do matter and only the "fittest," or beautiful survives.
