Police are warning internet users to be wary of dating site scams, after a Gold Coast woman was conned into sending more than $47,000 overseas to save a man's life.

Date: 2007-11-16

A 27-year-old Nigerian man, who claimed to be a British engineer, has been
arrested in Nigeria after an investigation involving Queensland police and
the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The 56-year-old woman was emailed fake documents to convince her of the
man's identity.

Superintendent Brian Hay says there is a chance other women could have been
targeted.

"So if we could just call out for anyone that is involved with internet
romance scams and you are required to send money in cash to someone you have
never met, please do not do it," he said.
