To those unable or unwilling to see beyond the superficial pleasures of a vaguely crappy romantic situation, grow the heck up.
It's tough love Thursday.
A couple of months ago, I pixled a blog titled 'Relationships; for adults only' in which there was a message I feel warrants further exploration.
The fact is that proper, grown-up relationships are not for the shallow amusement of children giddy with delusions of maturity; they are instead the domain of the socially responsible and selflessly reasonable.
You see, in my book, the height of immaturity stems from the inability to be honest with yourself; cheating others is one thing, cheating yourself quite another.
And the biggest lie we're cheated into?
"Stop the presses, I'M IN LOVE!"
...sure you are buddy; with yourself.
And that dirty L-word too.
(This is the point, I'm sure, where I'll rub some of you the wrong way, "...but she's killing romance!")
Well pull yourselves together. No-one like a sook. It never got no-one nowhere and nothing good ever came from lying, y'hear!?
Ahem.
Whether you're blessed with personal insight, or possess the ability to learn from the lives of your comrades, take a moment to reflect on all the relationships that have rocked your world.
Pay particular heed to the ones that seemed "Oh so RIGHT!" but ended oh-so-wrong; comparable in character to a pink-faced, angst-ridden, pre-pubescent drama queen who couldn't wait to begin but wailed in indignation at the end.
These are the relationships we fall into because, dammit, "I WANT (*stamp foot*) AND I WANT IT NOW!"
These are the tempestuous, time- and soul-consuming trysts that unleash a fury of tear soaked angst, vehement passion, fiery jealousy and desecrate the temple of truth
And these are the relationships where, in actual fact, the notion of love is more important than the reality. The parties desire each other for reasons of comfort, security, stability, sex, intimacy or merely to fill the gaping void that emerges from where a solid self should be.
So what is the point of these affairs?
Well, sharing the soft spot for balance that I do, I believe that the rotten paints the ripe fruit with a new glory.
I just wish that it weren't so easy to get bitten by the bane of temptation.
