Australian senator calls for lesbians, singles IVF ban

A senator from the Australian prime minister's Liberal Party wants lesbian couples and single women banned from publicly-funded IVF services.

Guy Barnett says the government should reintroduce laws to enable states and territories to adopt the ban.

He says publicly-funded IVF services should only be available to heterosexual couples.

A lesbian couple is suing a Canberra doctor for implanting two embryos into one of the women, after the couple had requested one.
