Speed Dating was the last type of dating service I discussed in my last article. For those of you who don’t own a car, perhaps a telephone will serve you well if you like dating at a much slower pace. What I am talking about here literally is telephone dating using chat lines. Telephone dating is just like ordering a pizza. Well, not exactly in that it’s not 20 minutes or less and free. With that said, some of the services we looked at actually let you have all the fancy fixings and toppings but you have to pay for them…again literally speaking!
When we were interviewing people for our new book Fast Food Dating Your 2 Cents we found so many people had tried both Internet and telephone dating. Respondents asserted both were highly addictive. Many asserted telephone dating was very entertaining. “It’s a great way of killing time or getting chuckles off.” Some even said it’s a great way of getting “other things off” as well. I won’t even go there!
From our research we found many people became habituated to telephone dating. Many used it to pass time and “just chat”. Many had no inclinations of ever meeting face to face. In fact, some had developed the ultimate “telephone chat line friends”. Was anyone finding successful love and romance on chat lines? Did it work? Well, yes and no. We did find the highest rates of success were for those seeking intimate encounters otherwise known as sexual relations. As a matter of fact, we found people using telephone chat lines asserting that sex trade workers (escorts, prostitutes and call girls) were using this service as a new way of self-promotion. Hey, they are people too! Men were using this service to find these women more discretely. What was most interesting, many of the telephone chat lines we looked at or inquired about gave women free telephone access while men had to pay. So let’s see if we got this straight… Sex trade workers got to advertise their services for free while men had to pay to use a service to find sex trade workers and then pay them on top of that for their service? Intriguing to say the least!
With that said, we compiled 2 Top 10 Lists, one for each of the positives and negatives for using telephone chat lines. This time around, I thought I would give you the ugly and there’s no coyotes in our list!
Top 10 bad reasons for using telephone chat lines:
1) For crying out loud, hasn’t everyone yet heard about touch tone? Not to be confused with self touch!
2) Sorry, I might get cut out, my cordless phone is dying!
3) What’s new is really old. So many people claiming to be new to the system are pretending to be someone else.
4) Age of majority? Damn, are some of these people chatting actually reached puberty yet?
5) Pretentiousness! Basically, you can be anything you want to be when you grow up. Problem is many adult chatters are pretending to be grown-ups!
6) People are fair-weathered and blow like the wind, no pun intended! On day they are looking for something serious/long-term, another day they are seeking something sexual, while other days they are “just killing time”.
7) Did someone forget to tell me this was a 1-900-SEX-LINE? I tried this to date and meet for a relationship not to listen to others moan and get their rocks off!
8) Some telephone chatters are aggressive or passive aggressive individuals who use chat forums to try and make people listen to them. They failed in real life, so they use Ma Bell, Sprint or AT & T as their mediator! The telephone is a great tool for venting due to break-ups or hatred toward the opposite sex. Some people use it to get even and screw around with others, to vindicate the wrongs done to them.
9) First impressions. How the heck do you even make one? If people are pretending to be something they are not, then are they not always making a first impression?
10) Appearances are extremely deceiving! You definitely don’t know how deceiving until you finally meet face to face.
There you have it folks. It’s up to you to let your own fingers do the walking. There are good reasons to use telephone chats as well as we have those outlined in our book. Bottom line, telephone dating is truly like ordering take out. You don’t what you are truly going to get until it arrives. Keep in mind, sometimes it’s better you don’t first have a picture then you can’t complain the pizza doesn’t look like the picture in the flyer or your mate doesn’t look like the picture in the ad. You get the picture!
