More people finding Romance via Mobile

More Americans are finding romance over their mobile phones, says mobile subscription matchmaking service Webdate Mobile.

The company’s subscriber base was up 23% from November 2006. Most users viewed pictures and profiles. Traffic was consistent throughout the day, unlike standard web services, which show spikes in activity before and after standard work hours. The company also says that women make up a higher percentage of users than non-mobile services. The average user is 28.

Alex Panelli, CEO of Trilibis Mobile, makers of Webdate Mobile, believes that the mobile dating industry is driven by speed and ease of use. “Webdate Mobile enables users to continue pursuing active lives while staying connected to the largest mobile phone accessible dating community. Busy, on-the-go people can quickly view profiles, send messages, and respond to messages from prospective dates.”

Webdate operates several versions of its service in addition to the public WAP version, to be compatible with proprietary mobile networks like Sprint and Cingular. The company is currently running a contest that will send a couple on a weekend getaway in Las Vegas.
