Meet as many as a dozen single, eligible professionals in one night, just in time for Valentine's Day?
It is possible with a concept that's growing more popular in the Ark-La-Tex. It's calledspeed dating and it's considered a safe, stress-free way to meet people. There are two events planned in Shreveport for February 13th. For just a fraction of the cost of one date, people 21 and older can have as many as twelve.
If you need an excuse to try it, the non profit organization the Extra Mile has one. The group is putting on a speed dating night as a fundraiser.
As the manager of Shreve Memorial Library's Mooretown branch, Rose Davis is lucky in labor.
"It's a dream job. It's whatI love to do. I love to work with books and people," she says.
But the sassy Shreveport single is not so lucky in love. She's been unattached for 13 years.
"As a matter of factI can't remember the last time I've been out on a date," she says.
But just in time for Valentine's Day Rose will have ten dates. She signed up for the Extra Mile's speed dating fundraiser.
"Won't have to pass another one without flowers or candy and you know maybe you meet someone that might be interested," says Davis.
It might just happen next Tuesday at Nicky's Restaurant in Shreveport's Red River Entertainment District. Rose and other men and women will get five minutes with up to ten people to hopefully make a love connection.
Vickie Marshall, the executive director of The Extra Mile Region VII, "It's really good for professionals and singles who may not get a chance to get out as often. You'll be in a relaxed environment with other people meeting other professionals and singles and just having fun, fellow shipping getting to know one another."
And besides being a bargain at just 25 bucks, five more for a background check, the money benefits extra mile programs like big brothers big sisters.
That's what cinched the deal for Rose Davis.
Rose, "You don't have any great expectations of what might happen and it's for a worthy cause."
