NEW online dating service for Turkish speaking singles in London was launched on Monday, registering nearly a hundred new members in its first three days.
Canim-benim.com, founded by a young Turkish and Turkish Cypriot couple, has already made its mark on the community following a bold flyer-posting campaign that has flooded the streets of the capital.
One of the founders, who wished to remain anonymous, told the London Turkish Gazette: "Our team of admin staff have already posted flyers all over North and East London, from Oakwood in Middlesex to Liverpool Street in the City, and they’ll be moving on to south London this week."
She added: "We’ve had so much interest, it’s been wonderful!"
The project has been underway since the couple had the brainwave while on holiday in April, and has since taken off with the help of substantial business funding.
"We wanted to make sure that we did it properly," said the 33-year-old Managing Director, who previously worked as a merchandiser for a major High Street retailer.
The website, which will include Turkish, German and Dutch language services by February, will include an email matching service for members, as well as text messaging, playlists for couples and events organisation for groups of singles.
"We want to go global in about six months, starting with an advertising campaign in Cyprus and Turkey" said the Managing Director. "We also plan on visiting a German city every fortnight to post flyers," she added.
The Turkish Cypriot Londoner hopes the website will provide an essential service to Turkish speaking singles looking for partners who share the same culture and language.
" It was very important to me to marry someone from the same background," she said. "There are so many Turkish professionals out there who would like to meet someone from their own cultural background, but struggle to do so."
