An insurance company official who married a Vietnamese woman in haste has found much cause for regret although they tied the knot a mere four months ago.
For C.H. Yip, 51, his 28-year-old wife is no longer the sweet woman to whom he was smitten when he first met her in July.
The woman has, since their marriage in August, allegedly done everything from extorting money from him, to physically assaulting him and even threatening to emasculate him, Yip claimed.
Abuse at the hands of his 'militant' wife, whom he learnt was trained by the Vietnamese army, has filled Yip with so much terror that he ran away and dares not return to his Puchong home to even ask for an end to the marriage.
Relating his ordeal of being trapped in the abusive relationship with his foreign wife, Yip said he was introduced to her by his ex-classmate's friend who is a foreign brides' agent in July.
"She was among three foreign women being offered to me to take as a wife. Besides her, there was a 19-year-old girl, and another who was in her 30s," he said.
"She could speak Mandarin very fluently and appeared nice at first. I was rushed into marrying her as the agent claimed she would have to return to Vietnam if she was not married by the end of August."
He said although he paid RM14,000 to the agent, he is still owed RM5,000 for the "marriage cost".
Yip said even before the marriage, he was asked by her to pay US$1,000 (RM 3,800) to help her father who has ostensibly suffered a stroke in Vietnam.
"After our marriage was registered in Putrajaya, I spent about RM4,000 to buy her jewellery and a handphone."
"She also got me to lend money to her brothers and mother who she claimed owed money to loan sharks in Vietnam.
"When I refused on the third request after making two such loans, she started to act violently against me."
"She slapped, punched and scratched me,"he told a press conference at MCA public services and complaints department head Datuk Michael Chong's office today.
Yip said she even threatened to harm him with knife when he refused to have children with her because of his financial constraints.
"On three or four occasions, she threatened me that if she finds I have another woman outside, she would cut off my penis," he said.
Yip said he suffered mental torture and had restless and sleepless nights as he was worried his wife would carry out her threats.
He said she even pocketed the deposits from two houses in Sentul and Cyberjaya which he sold.
He said after he left home on Tuesday, his wife begged for forgiviness and asked him to return, but he is adamant about not falling for her trap again.
He plans to get some friends to help him talk to the woman into a divorce and send her back to Vietnam.
