A recent survey commissioned by OctopusTravel.com.au revealed that an individual’s relationship status considerably affects their plans to go overseas.
The online survey that was conducted by the dating service website RSVP.com.au consisted of 642 Australian participants- 462 women and 180 men. The results showed that over half of the participants had put off a holiday in the past due to their single status, with 26.5% citing that they had nobody to go with, 30% citing that the cost of going alone was too dear and 16% explaining that they did not know where to go as a single.
The results also showed that 15% of men were willing to put off their holiday plans in order to meet somebody; this is compared to 6% of women who were willing to do the same. Men were also shown to be more romantically inclined when overseas, with 6% of men saying that their main purpose for going on holidays was for ‘romance,’ compared to 1% of women.
Women also showed to be more inclined to a ‘Flop and Drop’ vacation, with backpacking and cruising proving to be popular with males. One vote was unanimous amongst the sexes and this was that out of the 81% of respondents who had travelled alone, 59% said that the worst thing about travelling solo was ‘not being able to share the experience.’ Ninety per cent of the respondents also said that they would participate in a ‘singles’ holiday with other single people.
