Illegal migration jeopardizes Russia

The problem of illegal migration threatens Russia's national security, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov told a government commission meeting today. He said that it was impossible to name the exact number of illegal immigrants and stateless persons in Russia. Fradkov pointed out that this problem resulted in the increase in illegal businesses and created problems for the Russian economy. According to Fradkov, illegal migration is basically exploitation of the socially and legally unprotected migrant workers.

Fradkov sees the solution to the problem in using the potential of the regions, namely, the municipalities. He assured the regional leaders that their proposals and remarks would be taken into account in devising laws and taking practical measures.
