A Holon resident who joined a singles club to find the love of her life, ended up with something she didn't bargain for: According to the woman, the dating agency hooked her up with a murder suspect.
At the beginning of the year a woman contacted a club that specializes in matchmaking. In exchange for the match she was asked to pay the club NIS 4,800 (USD 1,000). She received a list of names and met with several potential beaus, although she was not happy with any of them.
According to the woman the worst part of the affair was when she met with a young man who had been apprehended a month earlier for suspicion of murdering his Australian girlfriend.
"I called the club immediately after the date and complained because he didn't make a good impression on me. Little did I know that two weeks later I would be reading about him in the newspaper for suspicion of murder? I was shocked," said the woman. The woman added that she was appalled at the thought that she had actually sat beside the man in question and that she had conversed with him.
Following the chilling discovery the woman contacted the dating agency asking for her money back. When she did not receive a response she contacted "Emun Hatzibur" a consumer protection organization, in a request to assist her is getting her money back.
The dating club's response was that the suspect's membership had been revoked as soon as his shady background was revealed.
The club added that he had been screened prior to becoming a member and that it wasn't apparent that he had a criminal background. The club agreed to return a part of the membership fee to the woman because "she had used the agency's services for quite some time."
