Date: 2006-11-23

The number of Russian immigrants to Israel who return to their native land reportedly is rising steeply.

Yediot Achronot reported Tuesday that the number of naturalized Israelis from Russia who go back to the country of their birth has increased more than sixfold in the past three years.

It said many were drawn by the improved Russian economy, while others maintained homes in both places.

In response, the Foreign Ministry said the rate of return by Russian immigrants is less than 5 percent.
