In 2007, Copenhagen welcomes a new and growing target group, specifically the single tourist. In Europe, more and more people live the single life but they do not go on holiday alone. Many simply stay at home or choose another type of holiday instead of a city break. Now, singles can experience Copenhagen in the company of lone travellers.
Table for one? Who wants to dine all alone in a restaurant where everyone else is enjoying the company of family or friends? Travelling alone can sometimes be lonely. The fact is, more and more people are living the single life in Europe. But, when it comes to a city holiday, many singles stay at home or choose another type of holiday simply because they do not want to be alone in a strange city. Although bicycling around Copenhagen is a great way to see the city, sharing the sights with others adds more fun. Dining at one of the many good restaurants or relaxing at one of the city's many cafes in the company of others lends an air of festivity to the experience.
That is why Wonderful Copenhagen has put together a series of offers for the single tourist who would like to experience Copenhagen in the company of other lone travellers.
Online booking At www.visitcopenhagen.com, single tourists can book an evening at the opera that includes the performance followed by dinner or with a tour backstage. They can sign-up for an evening cooking class where they, together with other single tourists, prepare dinner and enjoy the fruits of their labour. Or, they can book a city tour on bicycle. On the website they will find cultural events, activities, city tours, special interest tours such as microbreweries, gastronomy and Copenhagen by Night.
- Most city tourists plan their own holiday and travel individually instead of in groups. When singles make their own travel arrangements, not only do they travel alone, they often find themselves without direct access to a community when staying in Copenhagen. Therefore, we will try to make it as easy as possible for single tourists to participate in group activities. We are not talking about a "dating service". The decisive factor is that one is booked into a group that has the same interest and desire to get to know other people while on holiday, says Ole Andersen, sales and marketing senior director of Wonderful Copenhagen CVB.
