J-LO may have sung that Love Don't Cost a Thing but for most Glaswegians there is a high price to pay for romance. Singles in the city are splashing out a massive £5000 per year in pursuit of true love. This can be up to a third of an annual wage. The figure is among the highest in the UK, with only Birmingham topping that spend. More than half of respondents to the survey, by milk brand The One, in advance of Sunday's National Dating Day, admitted to splashing out more than £50 before even leaving the house. It was revealed 20% regularly spent more than £100 to look in top shape for that special date. Trips to the hairdressers, new outfits and accessories all topped the splurge league - with one respondent even admitting to indulging in a spot of botox for a night out. The survey also reveal-ed Britain's long hours work culture seems to be affecting our chances of finding love. More than 36% of people in Glasgow believed their occupation affects their chances of meeting 'the one'. Occupations particularly badly hit in the region include media/ marketing, medical and legal professions. However, they do not appear to have lost their belief and desire for finding their ideal partner. On average, nearly 25% of the surveyed singles go out more than four times a month socially while searching for their soul mate. Joanne Rae, marketing manager for Robert Wiseman Dairies, which produces The One, said: "The fact that so many singles state their work hampers their chances of finding the one may explain why people spend so much money in advance of a night out."
