Chinanews, Shanghai, Sept. 12 – With people in Shanghai quickening their tempo of life, traditional romantic styles of dating are gradually fading away from local young people's hearts. More and more young white collars start to pursue new dating styles, like online, group and travel matchmakings. In this new world composed by modern communication tools, young people have started to pursue "long-distance" dating.

Ms. Xu, 30, of Minhang District, married Mr. Wang from Beijing not long ago. She said that she met her husband in an online chat room in late 2005. "Although online dating makes some people astonished, from my eight-year dating experiences I believe Mr. Wang can bring me utmost happiness," she said.

There is a Chinese saying, "People living far apart will meet if they are destined to," which are suitable words to describe Ms. Xu's experience.

"I do believe people can fall in love at their first sight," said Mr. Zhang, holding fresh flowers at the Pudong International Airport to welcome his girlfriend back to Shanghai. He met her two years ago thanks to his friend's introduction. When they met, they immediately fell in love. "Distance can create love," said Mr. Zhang.

In the past, Shanghai young people prepared to find their lovers in their own circles. Experts said a Shanghai youth would probably refuse courtship with non-local person 10 years ago. Shanghai citizens now believe love can create marriage. Statistics show that 25% of newly-weds married through such "long-distance" dating in Shanghai.
