SWEETHEARTS Rachel and Elliot Frampton, members of Belper St. John Ambulance Division, are celebrating their marriage after first meeting when Elliot was on first aid duty.
Their romance came after a near-tragic accident three years ago led Rachel to pursue a first aid role that would eventually bring them together. Rachel's was walking along the ridge of Thorpe Cloud, Dovedale, which is almost 1,000ft high when she slipped from top to bottom landing face down in the river. She was dragged out of the river by her friend and taken to hospital where it was discovered she had suffered injuries including a broken pelvis in five places. The first person on the scene was a first responder. Rachel said: "I was so grateful that I decided I wanted to be able to help people and thought about joining a first aid organisation." Rachel, 33 and Elliot, 31 – a St John Ambulance volunteer for 13 years – were introduced through a dating agency. They agreed to meet when Elliot came up from his home in the south on duty with St John Ambulance at the famous Shrovetide Football in Ashbourne in 2004 – and they have never looked back. They were married on July 15 at Kegworth Methodist Church. Soon after meeting Elliot, Rachel joined St John Ambulance too. Rachel said: "It made perfect sense for me to join St John Ambulance, fulfilling my desire to be able to help others like I was helped." The couple now lives in Derby.
