Have you or a friend ever thought about trying an on-line dating service? When a Utah woman signed up with a company called Executive Utah Dating, paid them hundreds of dollars, and nothing happened, she decided it was time to Get Gephardt.
It's like other dating services. You pay your money, they find out a little about you, and then they hook you up, on-line, with someone in your area you might like to date. Let's see if we can figure out just who Executive Utah Dating is.
Kay Terry had been out of circulation for a while. But now, between her career and her new education she is looking for a relationship, and discovered Executive Utah Dating.
It's a pricey online dating service, but Executive Utah Dating promised that for $947, Kay would get a 6 month membership, including personal interviews with counselors.
For that high price, they guaranteed between two and seven high class introductions per month.
"They sent me one response," says Kay.
The profile sent to Kay was from a Salt Lake fellow named Kent. Executive Utah Dating sent along a picture of Kent with the profile.
"So, I'd never heard of them before," says Kent Barnes.
Four years ago, for $50, he signed up for the dating service Match.com and met a woman with whom he has a relationship now. He never gave Executive Utah Dating his profile.
“Some of the information was correct. Some of the information was… creative, shall we say – creative at best – and some of it was just flat out wrong. It's as though someone pirated information, and enhanced it to meet their own needs,” says kent.
Do you get the idea from just the name Executive Utah Dating that maybe this is something special? Something unique? Something special to the state of Utah? Well look what I found out.
Remove Utah and stick in any state, say, Iowa and presto. Same website with Executive Iowa Dating, or put in Ontario, Canada and you get Executive Ontario Dating. And where are they located? The website says Nevada, and the untraceable phone, they told me is Beverly Hills, California. Their supposedly personal receptionist is actually an answering service in Michigan, or in New York City.
"I’m so disappointed,” says Kay.
She wants everyone to know.
"I would be more pleased if this message got out to as many single people like me, or others that might have a single friend, so that they are not victimized,” says Kay.
When I managed to contact a man who called himself Dave Allen with Executive Utah Dating and requested an interview, they sent me a note saying only that all my questions would be answered on their website. Those questions were not answered, and I was unable to trace the note.
