Lachlan Ayres, 27, of Britain, said he and his parents were staying in a flat near Chistiye Prudy for $79 a night.
Ayres: "My mother found it on the Internet. The hot shower isn't very good, the water is not very hot, but otherwise it is good."
Ildiko Arndt, 28, and Jesse Smith, 28, of the United States, said they were staying in the dormitory of the Moscow Art Theater School at Belorusskaya for 45 euros ($57) a night.
Arndt: "If we could, we would stay there again, but if my sister is not there we are not sure we will have access to it. Otherwise we are not sure we could afford a hotel here."
Smith: "There's a pretty big gap here, the hotels are either very expensive or very cheap."
Norhidayat Rahim, 30, and Iam Lim, 30, of Singapore, said they were staying at the Irbis Hotel in the Petrovsko-Razumovskaya metro station area for $70 a night.
Lim: "It is pretty basic. The good thing is they show pictures on the Internet, so you know what to expect. For what it is, [the price] is still on the high side."
Rahim: "I booked it on the Internet. Most of the time we are not going to be in the room. And in Singapore, to go from home to the center it usually takes a half-hour by public transportation, so we don't mind [taking the metro]."
Eero Mikkola, 30, of Finland, said he was staying at the Kosmos for $135 a night.
Mikkola: "I have a project with Russian colleagues and they reserved the room for me. I stayed here in March too. The price compared with the quality is balanced, it is convenient and I like using the metro because the stations are nice and maps are readily available. And I like this area because of the [VVTs] exhibition park and natural area; I didn't expect it to be so green."
Nell Piltzer, 67, and Mark Piltzer, 73, from the United States, were staying at the Best Eastern Sovietsky Hotel, where staff say the minimum charge is $200 for a standard double room.
Nell Piltzer: "Our friend from Moscow reserved the room for us. It is comfortable and the room is nice, except we can't open the windows when we want fresh air since the air conditioning is not turned on yet." Mark Piltzer: "Yes, the room is fine. I'd like it more if the metro was right on the corner. But it is still close, and I don't mind if the hotel is not in the center."
