(The Business Journal) With parent company Deutshe Post World Net, DHL said it will invest more than $250 million within the next four years in strategic initiatives for Russia.
Investments for the Plantation-based package delivery firm are focused on infrastructure and facilities, a wider product portfolio, introducing new technologies and personnel training.
DHL Russia is also to expand its road network, which includes new docking terminals to connect key economic centers of the country.
All four DHL businesses in Russia - DHL Express, DHL Freight, DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Exel Supply Chain - are to participate in the investments.
Klaus Zumwinkel, Deutsche Post World Net chief executive officer and chairman, said Russia is a very successful market for DHL and the company sees great prospects for the future.
"The planned investments demonstrate our confidence in the high potential of the Russian economy and the express delivery and logistics market in particular," he added.
For the first quarter, DHL Russia said shipment volumes rose more than 30 percent from the same period in 2005.
Established in 1984, DHL Russia serves more than 500 towns and cities across Russia. DHL's international network as a whole serves more than 220 countries and territories.
