Orthodox communities abroad vote for reunification with Moscow

SAN FRANCISCO, May 12 (RIA Novosti, Olga Lipich) - The Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) approved a resolution Friday to reunify with the Moscow Patriarchate.

The document, a landmark in the ROCOR's history, was adopted on the fourth day of the ROCOR's Fourth All-Diaspora Council, and lays the groundwork for a canonical decision to join the Moscow Patriarchate as a self-governed branch, similar to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

"The resolution was passed by an open vote almost unanimously. Less than 5% voted against it," said Priest Serafim Gan, secretary to the head of the ROCOR.

"Now that all conditions are ready, we can re-establish normal relations between the ROCOR and the Moscow Patriarchate," Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II said earlier. "We expect that they be regulated by the Act on Canonical Communion."

According to the draft act, the ROCOR will remain independent in terms of pastoral, educational, administrative, economic, property and secular issues.

The revolutions of 1917 and ensuing Civil War in Russia caused a split in the Russian Orthodox Church in the 1920s, when some top clergy in exile refused to be subordinated to Church leaders who had allegedly collaborated with the Communists.

Metropolitan Laurus, the head of the ROCOR, visited Russia in May 2004 and participated in a number of joint services. The sides decided at the time to set up joint commissions, and determined the range of issues to be discussed at the All-Diaspora Council that will meet for the first time since 1974.

WHEN MADONNA CAME TO MOSCOWWhat Do Women Want? Just AskMost Divorced Men's Marriage Ruined by Family Days
It’s the day before Madonna’s first ever Moscow show, and the atmosphere around the gig is tense. Many Muscovites say they are sure something will go wrong, and the gig will be cancelled. There is a sense that there is more riding on this concert than just music. Forget the G8 summit in St Petersburg – Madonna’s gig is, in the words of Arthur Fogel, chairman of Live Nation’s global music division and the top tour operator in the world, “easily the biggest show that’s ever been held in Russia”. ...FOR most of the 27 years it has been in business in Canada, Shane Homes has staked its claim as one of the countrys leading regional homebuilders the old-fashioned way: it devised and executed cookie-cutter designs for new houses just as fast as the orders came in. As the economy of its home base, Calgary, Alberta, soared on the back of oil and gas riches, it could have continued minting money by sticking with that tried-and-true approach. But two years ago, smack in the middle of a housing boom...Men cite the agony resulting from family events as the main reason for marital discord and women their husbands’ career failure, a straw poll shows. The nationwide poll of 524 divorcees bent on a second marriage found that 24.4 percent of male respondents said that family events were the biggest reason for arguments with their wives before their divorce, while 44.2 percent of female respondents cited their husbands’ lack of business acumen. The poll was conducted by dating agency Only You, whi...
