April 5 2006, Domodedovo International Airport presented its technological development programme for the near future.
Head of Russian and foreign airlines, representatives of transportation companies and travel agencies analysts and consulting companies, as well as representatives from the diplomatic community and NGOs took part in the event, which was held at the airport.
The main objective of the airport technological upgrading program implemented within the framework of the general Domodedovo Airport development project is to expand passenger terminal and to equip it with state-of-the-art communication and engineering systems.
Works on the terminal expansion are well under way. On 31 March, 2006 the first area of 500 sq. m in the centre of the terminal was commissioned. Additional 750 sq. m area will be commissioned in mid-April. This area is also located in the central part of the terminal and has an exit to the landside. 750 sq.m more will be commissioned by May 2006. Thus, by May 2006 the terminal will be expanded by 2,000 sq. m. This area located in the central part of the terminal will have two new exits to the landside. Construction materials and structures used in the course of the terminal upgrading will ensure passenger safety and comfort and give the terminal a modern look as the most sophisticated technological solutions and developments were implemented during the terminal construction.
Such systems as the Building Management System, Automatic Message System, Baggage Screening and Baggage Reconciliation System, as well as other equipment are being installed in the terminal.
Motor vehicles monitoring system based on Potok hardware/software system is used to improve airport security. Apart from that a multi-level baggage control system is also to be introduced.
The afore-said innovations as well as introduction of other modern equipment, such as new air bridges capable of serving two airplane exits simultaneously, remotely operated towing tractors, ambulance elevators, electric carts for disabled persons and late passengers, are another proof of EAST LINE Group commitments to turning Domodedovo International Airport into one of the largest hubs in Europe and technologically advanced airports in the world.
