By the way, do you know that Russian Orthodox Christmas is celebrated thirteen days after Western Christmas in accordance with the old Julian calendar? After the 1917 Revolution, Christmas was banned throughout Russia, along with other religious celebrations. It wasn't until 75 years later, in 1992, that the holiday was openly observed.

After the fall of “iron curtain” Russian people started to take interest in traditions of Western people and that’s why some people in Russia celebrate Christmas together with Catholic world on December 25. But main celebrations in Russia go on December 31 and January 7 (New Year and Orthodox Christmas).

So, there are less than three weeks till New Year. It is high time to think about gifts!
