(Itar-Tass) The Moscow Kremlin Museums are celebrating the 200th anniversary.
Among the guests that attended the Tuesday celebrations at the Grand Kremlin Palace was Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Alexy II. Moscow has always been the heart of Russia and a cultural center, Alexy II said. “The Kremlin museums lived through the years of war and state atheism. Unfortunately, they had some losses,” the patriarch said. “Back then the Church was unable to protect its holy objects in the Kremlin, and that was done by museum employees, many of whom were subjected to repressions,” he said.
“The jubilee of the Moscow Kremlin Museums is our common joy and a landmark event in the historical, spiritual and cultural life of this country,” he said.
Louvre Museum Director Henri Loyrette congratulated Moscow colleagues. “These museums show the openness of Russian culture. They display not only Russian grandeur but also the world culture incorporated into Russia,” Hermitage Museum Director Mikhail Piotrovsky said. “The Kremlin means statehood, culture, spirituality and beauty,” he said, congratulating the museum staff on the anniversary.
