A New Jersey woman is asking the FBI for help after her husband left her penniless. She says he stole everything she had and then ran off to Honduras.
Margaret Valenti thought she had found the man of her dreams. But she says that man, Henry Acosta, turned out to be her worse nightmare.
"He hurt me. He took everything I had, my future for my son. It's not only that -- standing there before God telling me you love me," said scam victim Margaret Valenti.
The two met a year ago, and on October 15, they got married in the Bahamas.
"Everything was rosy, everything was brand new and perfect," Valenti said.
But soon after the wedding, the 41-year-old woman said that Acosta tricked her into signing over to him the $300,000 settlement she had won in a diet drug lawsuit.
"He convinced me to put it under his name because I would get in trouble because I'm on disability," Valenti said.
Valenti said that on November 16, Acosta came to Citibank and withdrew all the money. Two days later, he reportedly took off for Honduras.
According to Richard Koppenaal, Valenti's attorney, "Citibank did through their fraud division and attorney agree to freeze the account without a court order."
CBS couldn't reach Acosta for comment.
Valenti said that not only is she penniless but she also must pay off her wedding ring.
"I don't trust anybody," Valenti said.
Lodi police said they're considering a fugitive warrant for Acosta's arrest, but catching up with him could be difficult.
Valenti was able to file a criminal complaint because police say Acosta took off with all of her jewelry, too. They continue to investigate.
